We visited Alentejo for San Martin

Jorge has been visiting the Alentejo region (Portugal) with the task of finding the richest wines for the club's first cases.

St. Martin's Day, November 11 , has traditionally marked the end of the wine-growing cycle. In Portugal, the saying goes "On St. Martin's Day, you go to the winery and taste the wine" and in Bago we have taken the expression literally.

In the south of Alentejo, in the villages of Vila de Alva and Vila de Frades , there is an ancient tradition of making wine in talhas (small jars). The process is practically the same as in Roman times. The grapes ferment in the jars, with a protective layer of olive oil to protect them from oxidation, and on Saint Martin's Day these talhas are opened to taste what the last harvest has offered us.

We visited the Natus Vini and XXVI Talhas - Mestre Daniel wineries. A wine celebration, a meeting of various producers and enthusiasts, where we obviously tasted the 2023 wines directly from the talhas and made great discoveries and rediscovered great wines that we already knew and love.

We cannot thank you enough for the warm welcome at Natus Vini and XXVI Talhas, we will be back in 2024 to celebrate wine and traditions. Bago's first trip could not have been more special!
