June is the month that marks the arrival of summer and to celebrate it in Bago we travel to two Mediterranean regions bathed in sunshine.
We begin the route in Villalba dels Arcs, in Terra Alta, with Vins de Quimera. This area in the south of Catalonia is historically known for its whites with maceration, when the skin of the grapes comes into contact with the must, resulting in wines with more volume and structure. With poor soils, heat and little rainfall, in this region it is essential to use native varieties perfectly adapted to these conditions, such as Macabeo and Garnacha Blanca in Quimera.
We continue our journey to Saint Étienne d'Escates, in the south of France, with producer Zou Mai. The Gard is the warmest region in France, with very low rainfall. Its red and ochre soil is enriched by the tributaries of the Rhône. The winds from the Mediterranean bring moisture to the soil, which benefits the quality of the grapes and provides a minerality so present in the Vertebral.
Two Mediterranean-flavored wines to kick off summer.
